FOOD FOR THOUGHT

Winter squash comes in many varieties; also, some of the better well known are acorn squash, butternut squash, spaghetti squash and pumpkin. Winter squashes are high in vitamin A, C, D and acorn squash is a fiber heavyweight. You may want to try these lovelies in raw blended soups or topped with your favorite raw marinara sauce with a dash of cayenne.

Persimmons – vitamins A, C. The fruit also contains potassium, magnesium, manganese, and iron. Did you know that both the persimmon pulp and the peel are good sources of fiber? Some studies have suggested that the persimmon may lower blood fats.

Green and Red Peppers: vitamins A, C, and Bioflavonoid. Peppers are low in calories and a great snack food. They blend with everything so start blending. I love blended soups.

Pomegranate: Rich in potassium and vitamin C, and has three times the antioxidants of red wine and green tea. The juice is out of this world.

Lemons: From relieving sore throats to an excellent cleanser for the liver, bowel and blood stream. Try lemon on salads, drinks, smoothies, and even blended soups during this time of year.

Barley grass is made up of unique amino acids. They create a type of cage around deadly toxins and carry them out of your body. *

Barley grass is a well-balanced food. It has the exact blend of amino acids, proteins, enzymes, vitamins and minerals that you need for optimum health. Its healing powers are so historic, you find it mentioned in the Bible.

The potassium-rich banana may help lower your blood pressure, according to this new study. Low potassium intake was also found in African Americans, who may be more at risk for blood pressure problems.

Kiwi: Tiny but mighty. This is a good source of potassium, magnesium, vitamin E & fiber. Its vitamin C content is twice that of an orange.

Apple: An apple a day keeps the doctor away? Although an apple has a low vitamin C content, it has antioxidants & flavonoids which enhances the activity of vitamin C thereby helping to lower the risks of colon cancer, heart attack & stroke.

Strawberry: Protective Fruit. Strawberries have the highest total antioxidant power among major fruits & protect the body from cancer-causing, blood vessel-clogging free radicals.

Orange: Sweetest medicine. Taking 2-4 oranges a day may help keep colds away, lower cholesterol, prevent & dissolve kidney stones as well as lessens the risk of colon cancer.

Watermelon: Coolest thirst quencher. Composed of 92% water, it is also packed with a giant dose of glutathione, which helps boost our immune system. They are also a key source of lycopene - the cancer fighting oxidant. Other nutrients found in watermelon are vitamin C & Potassium.

Guava & Papaya: Top awards for vitamin C. They are the clear winners for their high vitamin C content. Guava is also rich in fiber, which helps prevent constipation. Papaya is rich in carotene; this is good for your eyes.

Today’s produce doesn’t have the nutrients that it had just a few decades ago. Over farming, soil depletion, commercial fertilizer, hybrid crops and genetic modifications are slashing the nutrients found in produce.

Just look at the US Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) values for fruits and vegetables today compared to 1975-6

According to the USDA’s own numbers, the vitamin and mineral content has fallen dramatically – in just 30 years.

Producers create “hybrid” forms of your fruits and vegetables. Not for their ability to store nutrients, but for their color, weight and shelf life. Why? So they’ll look nice when they sit under fluorescent lights at the store

DID YOU KNOW?

Diverticulitis is the flash point when you're bent over in pain and calling 911. Before that, there's diverticulosis. That's the warning sign that's often over-looked – unless your doctor spots the problem during a colonoscopy.

In diverticulosis, small pockets occur at weak points in the colon wall. These weak points develop when a low-fiber diet makes the bowels work harder and puts excess pressure on the colon.

Whole grain products can cause problems too. Wheat and rye (along with dairy products) prompt mucous development in the digestive tract. Pressure on the colon wall increases when mucous builds up and solidifies.

Many people who are sensitive to wheat gluten may react to the consumption of pasta, bread, and cereal with symptoms that may include anemia, fatigue, insomnia, and digestive disorders such as diarrhea, constipation and diverticulosis.

Diverticulitis occurs when a food particle gets lodged in a diverticulosis pocket. This may prompt inflammation, infection, fever, abdominal pain, cramping and in severe cases bleeding may occur.

Many people have discovered the benefits of eating a high raw vegan diet to reduce or eliminate diverticulitis.

How and why I got started on the raw food lifestyle :

Three years ago I was looking for a good way to get a perfect health, and I've found two ways :
1) natural hygiene;
2) raw food diet

Today as a natural hygiene practitioner (I use fasting to heal, for my relative to my own family, myself, and for my future customer) to me, raw food is really exactly what I need :all complete nutrient :protides, carbohydrate and good fat from vegetables, fruits, nuts, sprout seeds, necessary for the body, easy recipes to make, uncook food (you have more time in the day, because cooking is so long) to explain to the people how to have a proper nutrition, and the opportunity to practice my job. My masters are Herbert Shelton and Albert Mosséri for the natural hygiene, Frederic Patenaude, Douglas Graham, and The Raw Vegan Network for the raw food movement.

FAVORITE RECIPES

This is my personal bio menu for all day long :

I never eat before 10:00 - 10:30 am for my breakfast
and I always start with fruits; this is an example for the winter season :

I take 8 oz. grapefruit
         1 lb. Oranges
         1 lb. Nectarines
I peel the fruits and cut into a bowl, and I enjoy the contrasting flavors.

For lunch: I use 10 oz. Dates and 1 lb. cucumber
I peel cucumber for this recipe.
I pit the dates and thickly slice the cucumber, I place one date on each
               cucumber slice and I devour.
               It's sweet juicy, and crunchy.

For dinner: 8 oz. lettuce
                4 oz. oranges
                1 oz. walnuts
I chop the lettuce into a bowl, I peel the oranges, cut them into small pieces, and place
in a separate bowl along with chopped walnuts. I stir and pour over lettuce.
It' pretty delicious.

I eat normally a variety of fruits during the day if I feel hungry, and some raw
vegetables also are in the menu, but normally for dinner.
